Quick and very kind replies…

Our search for countries with a “friendlier” fiscal climate than the Netherlands brought us through countries like Luxemburg, Andorra, Spain, Portugal and Bali, and eventually to Malta. But how do you arrange an emigration from the Netherlands? After doing some research on the internet we found our agent Mark de Vink who was our first point of contact. Our communication started through e-mail where we got quick and very kind replies. After we planned our first travel to Malta, Mark offered us to guide us on this interesting island. Since Mark has spent some years on the island he, of course, knows a lot of people who can help you further with the emigration process. Through Mark we’ve been introduced to the bank, a lawyer and financial adviser in a short period of time. The fact that we could communicate in our own language with someone who has walked the same path before and knows the pitfalls was very pleasant. For this, we’re very keen to have built up a good relationship with Mark and his family. If we had to do the relocation process all over again would we do it the same way? The answer is, yes! We would.

An honest man!

If you want to live in Malta it’s good to look around to see in which area you want to live. The island is small but each region is different. At first, we went along with local estates agents but they don’t know the “ins and outs” for expats like ourselves. Mark de Vink takes you to the properties you want to see. He takes his time to get things right, picks you up from the airport or hotel, deals with formalities and informs you well. He’s an honest man!

Within 6 hours I found my apartment!

I met Mark after I already met with a couple of real-estate agents. What I didn’t like about other agents was that I would explain my needs and wants, and they would go and show me apartments that are completely the opposite. They were wasting my valuable time. It seems like they wanted to rent or sell specific places, either from friends or good clients instead of serving me as their client.

With Mark I spent some time going over every single apartment in his database. In Malta most places on websites are not available, and most places are listed with multiple agents so it’s impossible for agents to keep an up-to-date database. So we sat together and called straight away. Within 6 hours I found my apartment! Now two years later almost I’m still living here. I found a very nice place, for a good price, and Mark helped me as a newbie in Malta every step of the way. Since then I have recommended Mark to a lot of people.

From clients who attended the property viewing trip:

We know who should be our estate agent

What a fabulous way to have your potential clients to meet Malta. The short and efficient guided tour through Valletta gives an amazing impression of this wonderful city. We never get enough of this city and have enjoyed the tour. The next morning, we got a very useful and interesting seminar about everything you need to know if you want to settle here. Also, the different types of properties and investment opportunities were discussed. The latter might apply to us. The outlining of the Maltese tax system was especially good and complete. We want to thank you for all this. We know who should be our estate agent.

Well prepared…a lot of knowledge

Mark was well prepared for the seminar with all the relevant documentation material. It shows he has a lot of knowledge on the housing market. Sufficient information was given what the possibilities are when buying a property; a maisonette, apartment, villa (detached or semi-detached), house of character, penthouse etc. The location especially dictates the price. He offered good advice such as; you can have a lawyer look at your contract before you sign an agreement at the notary. Also, the reading of John Huber gave a lot of stuff to think about, since there are different Maltese tax schemes, and taxes differ a lot compared to the Netherlands. All in all, an interesting seminar with special thanks to Mark and his crew.
